Vacation Day 1 and 2
“A vacation is like love - anticipated with pleasure, experienced with discomfort, and remembered with nostalgia. ~Author Unknown”
March 1:
This was a Thursday, that day was horrid for weather all the way to Orlando. Here in Michigan, we had snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain and ice. That caused a 2 hour delay before we even boarded the plane. After we boarded the plane we faced another delay of almost an hour, due to Tornadoes in Atlanta.
When I booked our flight we had intentionally had a 4 hour delay in Atlanta so we could meet my friend there. It is a good thing (and sad) that we cancelled before we left Michigan, due to weather here and there because we would never have gotten to meet. When we landed in Atlanta we literally ran from Concourse C to Concourse D with a ride on tram as well. We got to the terminal, no plane. That was when they told us our plane was at another terminal. Which meant more running. When we got there, the door was already locked, they let us on as well as others who were on first plane with us. We sat on tarmac for about a half hour, due to them changing flightlines due to weather. We finally landed in Orlando at just before 11 PM.
We had a reservation for a car rental. While my husband waited for our luggage, I took bus to the car rental place because we thought they closed at 11 or 12. I got in line, he caught another bus to the car rental place. When I got there, there were 30 people in front of me. We reserved a compact or midsize at Hotwire.com for a dirt cheap rate for the two days we wanted a car. They had none, all they had was a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan for same price. I said "where do I sign?". I drive same kind of van at home, not same year. I was not disappointed to be renting this vehicle. After we got out of there, we ate for first time that day. Then we headed for the hotel. We got in about 1:30 am to hotel. I booked where I did for convienance. Close to port, close to airport and close to my friends house, and price.
We got up the next day (Friday) rather late. Given the hell of the day before its understandable. By the time we went down to breakfast it was a few minutes before 10. The waitress says (rather rudely), "we closed at 10, let me see what cook says". We said no that was ok and left. Our motto has always been "don't piss off the cook". I asked hotel desk for a restaurant close by.
Ended up in my friend's town, so we all went to eat together. Then she led us on a tour of an alligator preserve, then on to see some manatees, a dolphin, a beach and the back part of NASA. We could see the shuttle still on launch pad even though the mission was scrubbed and they hadn't put shuttle away yet. We also went to my favorite store to get last minute stuff for cruise. Then we headed back to hotel to meet with more of my friends from WPLC, who came to the area to see us off on our cruise, for dinner the night before.
The pictures in the album below have the dates at the top of each page as well as where we were that day. Enjoy.
