I'm doing what I think I was put on this earth to do. And I'm really grateful to have something that I'm passionate about and that I think is profoundly important.~~Marian Wright Edelman

MP3 is "Rainbow Connection"

I chose this song as we are all connected to our animals in one way or another.

I was going to do this page a while ago after I decided to become a puppy raiser for Leader Dog For The Blind then I got side tracked by other events in my life. I did take on a puppy for about a month then those events in my life came to a head decided to return her as it was not fair to her that I did not have the time to give her the attention she needed. So I made the tough Decision to return her broke my heart and my kids hearts. *** UPDATE*** I am back on the waiting list to be a puppy raiser (this was back in December 1999). I will update you as to how it is going.

Well here it is seven years later and we were adopted by our Future Leader Dog back in 2001 after we had had her a year. We had raised her as a puppy, took her back to Leader Dog For the Blind and she got homesick. They called us and asked us if we wanted to adopt her as she was to shy to make the Leader Dog program, even for breeding purposes. It's partially my fault, animals get in my heart and I love them like they are one of my kids. To those of you thinking of being puppy raisers, I highly encourage you to do so. It is a very rewarding program/experience. To this day Beauty doesn't think she is a D-O-G. But that is our fault. We treat our animals like they are an extention of us.

Today (11-6-08) On ABC's All My Children, they had United States Military Members from the various branches of service who had been injured in the line of duty. They were sitting in a lobby and totally unscripted dialogue in honor of Veteran's Day and more importantly to bring attention to Disabled Vets. They had one injured vet who had a dog from VetDogs. Please visit them here

Now back to my decision to publish this page. I decided back on 6/7/99 to publish this page (on my Geocities site that is now closed effective 1/07) rather then wait after seeing the Dateline NBC report on Canine Companions for Independance. The report was really informative I will provide links here to the pages with the story on it Please enjoy your visit to this page and all of my others If you have any questions email me at the link provided and thank you for taking the time to visit here.

This page, The ASL Page, When I Need You Page (first page I ever created), and In Search Of I brought over here from my Geocities site before I shut it down. They were the first pages I ever created.

"He is your friend, your partner,
your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be faithful and true,
to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be
worthy of such devotion."

This is what My Beauty looks like. Although, I am kind of biased, I think she is cuter!!

From Ann Landers Column

What Dogs do for us:

Catch Frisbees.
Keep a night alone from being truly lonely.
Get us outside on beautiful fall days,
rainy days and snowy winter days.
Listen to our singing.
Treat us like celebrities when we come home.
Warm our beds on cold nights.
Make our hearts more vigorous.
Alert us to the arrival of the mail.
Help us live alittle longer.
Make us smile.
Agree with everything we say.
Warm our knees with their chins.
Provide a use for old tennis balls.
Signal when a thunderstorm is coming.
Pull sleds.
Help lower our blood pressure.
Test how fast we can run.
Keep the squirrels from overtaking our yards.
Teach us the meaning of unconditional love.

GREAT DOG STORY

Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact, she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

If you see someone without a smile today give them one of yours! Live simply. Love seriously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.!
